Bringing 20+ Years of Dance Excellence to Arthur, Ontario

Arthur is the kind of community where people value connection, routine, family, and showing up for one another. But even in friendly small towns, it can still be hard to find something new to do — especially something that is active, social, welcoming, and easy to start as a beginner.

That is why Flying Dance Community is bringing dance classes to Arthur.

For over 20 years, we have helped everyday people discover the joy of partner dancing in a way that feels encouraging, structured, and human. Our goal is not to create a room full of performers. Our goal is to create a room where people feel comfortable learning, moving, laughing, and connecting.

Dance is a good fit for Arthur and the surrounding communities because it brings people together naturally.

You are not just sitting beside someone.
You are not just exercising alone.
You are not trying to force conversation.

You are learning together, moving to music, changing partners when appropriate, encouraging each other, and slowly becoming part of a community.

For people living in Arthur, Mount Forest, Alma, Kenilworth, Drayton, Fergus, Elora, Palmerston, Harriston, Moorefield, Conn, Grand Valley, Orangeville, and nearby rural areas, this gives you something positive to look forward to close to home.

Dance can support:

✓ A healthier weekly routine
✓ More confidence in your body
✓ Better posture, balance, rhythm, and coordination
✓ A fun way to reduce stress after a long day
✓ A natural way to meet people without pressure
✓ A shared activity for couples, friends, and family members
✓ A welcoming place to try something new
✓ A stronger sense of community

Most importantly, dance reminds us that it is never too late to begin again.

You can learn something new.
You can feel more confident.
You can meet good people.
You can bring more joy, music, and movement into your week.

FAQs | Arthur Dance Lessons | Salsa and Bachata, and more

Do I need a partner to join the Arthur dance classes?

No. You do not need a partner to join our Arthur dance classes. Many people come on their own, and that is completely normal.

In class, we rotate partners so everyone has a chance to practice, meet others, and feel included. The atmosphere is friendly, respectful, and beginner-focused.

Yes. These classes are designed for beginners and everyday people, not advanced dancers.

You do not need previous dance experience, and you will not be expected to know the steps before you arrive. We teach Salsa, Bachata and more, step by step, so you can build confidence at a comfortable pace.

Our Arthur dance classes are designed for a wide age range, generally ages 15 to 70.

Teens, young adults, working adults, couples, singles, parents, and active older adults are welcome. The most important thing is that you are willing to learn, participate respectfully, and try something new.

Yes. The goal is to make Arthur a central dance hub for the surrounding area.

Students from Mount Forest, Alma, Kenilworth, Drayton, Fergus, Elora, Palmerston, Harriston, Moorefield, Conn, Grand Valley, Orangeville, and nearby rural communities are welcome.

This is a good option if you want a fun weekly activity close to home without always driving into Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, or the GTA.

Yes. This class is especially good for nervous beginners.

Most people feel a little unsure before their first dance class. You may worry about your rhythm, your coordination, your age, your fitness level, or whether you will “look silly.” That is normal.

You do not need to be coordinated, fit, flexible, or naturally talented to start. You just need to show up, try, and let yourself learn one step at a time.

You will learn Salsa, Bachata, and other beginner-friendly social dance styles. Examples: West Coast Swing, Ballroom

Salsa and Bachata are fun, musical Latin dances that are popular at social events. For the West Coast Swing example, the style is smooth, relaxed, and works with many styles of music.

You do not need to know the difference before joining. We will introduce each dance step by step, so you can learn comfortably and build confidence as you go.

Yes. Many people feel more comfortable trying something new when they come with someone they know.

You are welcome to come with a spouse, partner, friend, sibling, coworker, neighbour, or family member. It can be a lovely shared activity outside the usual dinner, movie, gym, or errands routine.

You can also come alone. Many students do, and we work hard to make sure people feel included.

In most partner dance classes, we rotate partners because it helps everyone learn better and makes the class more social. It also helps people who come without a partner feel included.

That said, we understand that rotating can feel intimidating at first. We explain how everything works before we begin, and the atmosphere is friendly, respectful, and beginner-focused.

If you come with a spouse or partner and prefer to stay together at first, let us know. We want you to feel comfortable while still encouraging a welcoming group experience.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily.

You do not need special dance clothing. Most people wear casual clothes they would feel comfortable wearing to a light activity or a relaxed night out.

For shoes, choose something clean and comfortable that stays on your feet. Avoid heavy boots, flip-flops, or shoes with sticky rubber soles if possible, because they can make turning harder.

If you are coming from work, school, the farm, errands, or a long day, do not worry about dressing fancy. Come as you are, ready to move.

We understand that life happens.

People are balancing work, family, commuting, farming, shift work, weather, and other commitments. Missing a class does not mean your dance journey is over.

Depending on the program and schedule, you may be able to make up the missed class in another location, attend another suitable class, or use your credit toward a future class or eligible social dance event.

The goal is to help you keep dancing, not punish you for having a real life.

No. The beginner classes are designed to make the dances approachable.

At first, you may feel like you have two left feet. That is completely normal. Most people are not confident on their first night. The steps become easier with repetition, music, and a little patience.

You do not need to be athletic, flexible, young, or naturally coordinated to start. You just need to be willing to learn one step at a time.

Yes, when suitable classes are available, Flying Dance Community gives students flexibility between locations.

This can be helpful if you live between communities, work in another town, miss a class, or want extra practice. You may be able to attend another class or social in a different location if the schedule and level are a good fit.
