Saturday Night Dance Fix

More Than a Night of Dancing

Light dinner. Familiar faces. New connections. Dancing!

Saturday Night Dance Fix is Flying Dance Community’s new evening gathering – five times a year, with enough time built in to actually dance, talk, reconnect, and get to know the people you keep meeting on the floor.

We See Each Other All the Time. But Do We Know Each Other?

You can dance with the same person twenty times and still know almost nothing about them.

“I have.” — Nico, instructor

That’s one of the funny things about social dancing.

We spend a lot of time around each other without necessarily spending much time with each other.

You can share a three-minute song, smile, say thank you and move on to the next person. Do that often enough and you may know someone’s favourite Bachata song, recognize exactly how they lead a turn, and still have no idea what they do when they’re not wearing dance shoes.

Three-minute songs are great for dancing. They’re not really built for conversation — so we made room for one.

• Room to finally talk to the person you’ve danced with ten times.
• Room for a newer dancer to be introduced to someone who’s been around for years.
• Room for people from different classes, cities and dance communities to end up sharing the same table – and later, the same dance floor.

That’s the kind of evening we’re trying to create.

Not with forced networking, name tags or awkward icebreakers.

Just by giving people a little more time.

• Time to eat.
• Time to talk.
• Time to introduce a friend.
• Time to reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a while.

And, of course, plenty of time to dance.

Hopefully, by the time the social dancing begins, you’re not quite strangers anymore.

The Belonging Guarantee

Come on your own if you’d like – plenty of us started out that way.

We’ll make a point of introducing people throughout the evening, especially during dinner and before the social dancing begins. Our goal is simple: by the time the dance floor opens, the room should already feel a little more familiar.

If you leave the night feeling like you still didn’t really connect with anyone – no new dance friends, no one you’d feel comfortable saying hello to or going dancing with again – your next Saturday Night Dance Fix is on us.

That’s not a slogan. It’s the actual point of the evening, and we’re happy to put it in writing. Just let one of us know on your way out, or send us a message that week.

Move. Meet. Belong. with Nico

MOVE
Take the first step. Show up. Participate.

MEET
Go beyond exchanging dances. Get to know people.

BELONG
Return often enough that you’re no longer walking into a room of strangers.

What the Evening Looks Like

6:00-7:30 PM  |  Dinner, Arrive & Connect:  We’ll start with food, time to socialize, and the first performance of the night. Come early, grab something to eat, catch up with familiar faces, and meet some of the people you’ll be dancing with later. No rush to get onto the floor right away.

[ Early Bird Price Expires Sunday, October 25th ]

7:30-8:15 PM  |  Dance Session One:  A 45-minute session to get everyone moving, learning and interacting together.

8:15-9:00 PM  |  Dance Session Two:  A second 45-minute session – another style or idea, depending on the evening.

9:00 PM Onward  |  Social Dancing & Second Performance:  The floor opens for the night, with the evening’s second performance woven in. Expect Salsa and Bachata and plenty of time to dance with people from across the community.

Come for a few dances. Stay for the conversations. Or make a night of it.

Why We Start With Dinner.

Instead of meeting someone for the first time while trying to figure out whether to ask them to dance, we’d rather give everyone a chance to meet as people first.

The dinner isn’t really about the food.

It’s the only part of the evening built entirely for face-to-face conversation – no music competing for attention, nobody mid-turn, no one rushing off to catch the next song. Just a plate in one hand and enough time to actually talk to the person next to you.

That’s worth more to us than a bigger meal would be. It’s also where the Belonging Guarantee usually gets kept – most of the  people, who become new dance friends, are introduced at a table, not on the floor.

What’s Included in the Full Evening
  • Light catered dinner and time to connect
  • Two 45-minute dance sessions
  • Two performances sets
  • Social dancing for the rest of the evening
  • Late night snack
  • A hosted environment designed to help people actually meet one another

Each Saturday Night Dance Fix is capped at 60-80 guests, on purpose. It’s part of what keeps the room feeling like a room, not a crowd. When an evening sells out, we open a waitlist for the next one

This May Not Be Your Dance Night

If what you’re looking for is simply a place to arrive later, change your shoes and spend several hours social dancing, there are already some great events throughout our region that offer exactly that. (Please check DanceFinder)

Saturday Night Dance Fix is intentionally a little different.

We’re creating an evening for people who like the idea of making a night of it.

-> Eat together.
-> Meet people.
-> Learn something.
-> Watch a performance.
-> Dance.
-> Talk some more.
-> And then probably dance again.

We’re not trying to replace the other ways people enjoy social dancing.

We’re simply creating another kind of gathering.

Different doesn’t have to mean better than everything else. It just means different.

New to Social Dancing?

You are welcome here.

Saturday Night Dance Fix isn’t only for experienced dancers. If you’ve recently started taking classes, this is a chance to experience the social side of dancing with instructors, classmates and familiar faces nearby.

You don’t need to know dozens of patterns. You don’t need to arrive with a partner. You don’t need to already know anyone in the room.

Come as you are. We’ll help you find your way into the evening.

Been Dancing for Years?

Then you already know how easy it is to spend an entire evening surrounded by familiar faces without really having a conversation with many of them.

Saturday Night Dance Fix isn’t asking experienced dancers to come because they need another beginner lesson.

The lessons are only one part of the evening.

Come because there are people you haven’t seen in a while.

Come because there are people you’ve danced with dozens of times and barely know.

Come because someone new to the community may end up becoming one of your favourite dance partners six months from now.

And yes, come because you still love dancing.

You don’t have to need another dance class to enjoy learning, sharing an evening and being part of the room.

One Dance Floor. Many Communities.

Flying Dance Community teaches and connects dancers across several communities in Southern Ontario. But Saturday Night Dance Fix isn’t meant to belong to one school, one class or one group of dancers.

If you dance somewhere else, you’re welcome. If you haven’t danced with us in years, you’re welcome. If you’re one of our current students, you’re welcome. If this is your very first social dance event, you’re welcome too.

Dancers move between communities all the time. We take classes in one city, attend events in another, and build friendships all around us. The more opportunities people have to dance, connect and support each other, the stronger our whole dance community becomes.

Only a Handful of Saturdays Each Year

We’re not going back to a weekly schedule.

Instead, we’re planning approximately five Saturday Night Dance Fix evenings a year – roughly one every two months – so each one gets the time and attention a weekly social never could.

Plus, all evening are themed!

A New Chapter, Built on Something Special

For more than fourteen years, Friday Night Salsa Fix gave dancers across Guelph and the surrounding region a place to meet every week. The dance community has grown a lot since then — which is exactly why we’re doing this differently now.

Saturday Night Dance Fix isn’t a replacement for those Friday nights, and it isn’t trying to recreate them. It’s what we learned from fourteen years of bringing people together, applied to something new.

[ Read the Story of Friday Night Salsa Fix → ]

We’re not trying to build the biggest dance event, or fill every weekend on the calendar. Just something simpler: a gathering people look forward to, because of who they’ll see when they get there.

That’s Saturday Night Dance Fix.

FAQs | Saturday Night Dance Fix.

Do I need a partner?

No. Come solo, with a partner, or with friends.

No. Newer dancers are welcome, and the evening opens with two guided dance sessions before the main social dancing begins.

That’s exactly who the Belonging Guarantee is for. Come solo, and if you don’t leave with at least two new dance friends who’d be open to dancing with you again, your next Saturday Night Dance Fix is on us.

Mainly Salsa and Bachata Music (combined: up to 70% of the music). We include Kizomba, Merengue, Cha Cha, and a little bit of R&B and Afro Beats

Not at all. Dancers from other schools, cities and communities are very welcome.

No. Saturday Night Dance Fix is a different, intentionally smaller approach: about five gatherings a year instead of one every week.

Yes. Each evening is capped at 80-100 guests. Once we sell out, we open a waitlist for the next date.

The Full Evening ticket includes dinner, both performances, both dance sessions and the full social.

The $39 ticket gets you there at 7:30 PM for both dance sessions, the full social, and the second performance of the night | dinner and the first performance are reserved for Full Evening guests.

Yes.  The Full Evening ticket is $45 as an early bird, $55 regular, and $65 at the door. Early bird closes 7–10 days before the event once catering numbers are locked in. The 7:30 PM ticket is a flat $39.

What’s Included in the Full Evening

  • Dinner & real conversation time (6:00–7:30 PM) — value $25
  • Two guided dance sessions, 90 minutes total — value $30
  • Two live performances — one during dinner, one after the lessons — value $20
  • A full night of social dancing — value $20
  • A room hosted and introduced on purpose, so no one’s standing at the edge all night

A $95 evening — for $55 tonight (+ tax).

A quick note on the price. If you used to come out to Friday Night Salsa Fix every week, $25 a night adds up to well over $100 a month. Five Saturday Night Dance Fix evenings a year, at $55 each, comes out to about $275 for the whole year — less than one month of the old Friday night habit. Same dancing. A lot more evening built around it.

Our dance mantra: Practice = Personal Growth.
